Child getting vaccineBangladesh has kicked off a nationwide vaccination campaign to combat typhoid, focusing on drug-resistant strains. The move aims to protect millions of children as medical experts warn the pathogen is becoming harder to treat with conventional antibiotics.

Health authorities say the campaign will prioritize children under 15 years old, especially in densely populated and rural zones where sanitation challenges aggravate the spread. The vaccine being used has been selected for its proven efficacy against resistant strains, and the government is collaborating with international donors to procure sufficient doses.

Officials warn that untreated or partially treated typhoid infections may become more prevalent as antibiotic options narrow. The campaign is also slated to include public awareness programs on hygiene practices and safe water use.

Bangladesh’s health ministry emphasized that the initiative is critical not only for saving lives but also for relieving pressure on hospitals, which are already dealing with dengue and other health burdens this season.
