📰 Dengue Outbreak in Bangladesh 2025: Over 50,000 Cases Reported Nationwide

Dengue outbreak in Bangladesh 2025
Bangladesh faces one of its worst dengue outbreaks in history with over 50,000 reported cases and more than 200 deaths. Health authorities are calling for emergency action as hospitals struggle to manage the surge of patients.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday that over 50,689 dengue cases have been reported so far in 2025, marking one of the country’s most severe outbreaks in the past decade. The virus has already claimed at least 215 lives, sparking nationwide concern.

Experts attribute the alarming rise to unusual monsoon patterns, urban water stagnation, and a lack of mosquito control initiatives. Hospitals in major cities like Dhaka, Chittagong, and Khulna are facing bed shortages, prompting authorities to convert general wards into emergency dengue treatment zones.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque urged the public to take preventive measures such as using mosquito repellents, removing stagnant water sources, and covering containers.

“We are treating this as a national health emergency,” Maleque said. “We urge citizens to cooperate in controlling mosquito breeding.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also offered assistance, noting that dengue cases are increasing globally due to climate change and inadequate sanitation infrastructure.
